modShiply Scout Privacy Policy

This policy covers the modShiply Scout Chrome extension and the related modShiply application. It is written to support Chrome Web Store review and user-facing disclosure requirements.

What the extension processes

modShiply Scout reads the current marketplace product page the user has opened in order to extract visible product data such as title, price, host, image URL, category hints, and operator notes entered by the user.

The extension also stores three small setup items for the current user: the modShiply API base URL, a workspace label, and a short-lived extension session token. Supplier secrets, Shopify admin tokens, Amazon SP-API credentials, and similar marketplace secrets are not stored in the extension.

How data is used

Extracted page data is used only to power the user-facing modShiply features: product scanning, intake creation, watchlist submission, risk preview, and replay of locally queued intakes when the API becomes reachable again.

The extension sends this data to the user-configured modShiply backend only when the user explicitly validates setup, sends an intake, or sends a watchlist item.

Storage and retention

The API base URL and workspace label are stored in Chrome sync storage. The short-lived session token and the latest scan are stored in Chrome session storage. If the API is unavailable, pending intake payloads may be temporarily queued in local storage until replay succeeds or the user clears the extension.

Server-side retention is controlled by the modShiply application and the customer workspace operating that backend.

Sharing and security

Data is shared only with the modShiply backend configured by the user. The extension does not sell browsing activity, does not transfer product page data to ad networks, and does not expose supplier or marketplace secrets to the browser.

Critical server actions are revalidated on the backend with signed short-lived tokens.
